About Paris


Paris is the capital of France and home to many landmarks and famous individuals throughout history. The Inner city has 2.2 million inhabitants while the surrounding it has around 12.1 million.

The history of science in Paris is also long and rich with one of the oldest universities (Sorbonne) in the world. Education was and is still important in Paris. On the Eiffel tower, for example, the names of famous scientist are inscribed on side of the first level, clearly visible for any visitors.

Student life is sprawling with Universities and “Grandes écoles” scattered in the inner city and suburbs.

In optics, famous scientist such as Augustin Fresnel, Charles Fabry, Étienne-Louis Malus studied at École Polytechnique.


Public Transportation

RATP is the organisation that manages the public transportation in Paris.
